About Moku Man

Sgt. Hack pics Meet "Sarge"

Meet the Big Kahuna of Moku Man Island Wear: CEO David D. Hack, Sgt US Army (Ret). Sarge's association with aloha shirts goes back to his days on Wake Island in 1957 while he served with the US Coast Guard. Aloha shirts were his "second uniform" back then and he's been wearing them ever since! He also spent a good deal of time in Hawaii, collecting shirts and soaking up the culture (in fact, the second picture on the left was taken by Sarge's close friend & Hawaiian icon, the late Don Ho).

History

Military & Law Enforcement Service: Sarge joined the US Coast Guard in 1957 and served for four years. He later enlisted in the US Army in 1964, where he eventually became a sergeant with the 1st Infantry Division. He was serving with the Big Red One in Lai Khe, Vietnam in 1968 when he was awarded the Purple Heart for combat injuries that ultimately ended his military career. After a full year in the hospital and three years on medical hold, the Sarge was medically retired from the US Army in 1973 as a SFC E-7. Before retiring, the Sarge was an Army recruiter in Ohio and won the title of the nation's Number One Recruiter from 1969-1973, using a customized Army jeep (the "Hackmobile") as a recruiting tool. In fact, Sgt. Hack's jeep has been enshrined* in the Pratt Museum in Fort Campbell KY, the home of the 101st Airborne Division. Sarge, who has a PhD in Military Science, went on to a career in law enforcement, and retired as Chief of Police from Sebring, Ohio.

*Sgt. Hack's jeep is one of only two jeeps to ever be enshrined in a US Military Museum, the other belonging to Gen. George S. Patton (whose jeep is enshrined at Fort Knox, KY). Since being acquired by the museum, the Sarge's jeep has only been driven once... by Gen. William Westmoreland, who drove it in a parade.

Royal Blood: Sarge is a descendent and member of the Royal Ffrench Family of Ireland, which goes back to 1278. The Ffrench family first came to America in 1671, settling in Maryland and Kentucky. In 1911 Viola A. Ffrench of Sunfish Kentucky, the direct descendent of the Royal Ffrench Family of Ireland, was born. The Hire in the United States and of the Royal Family is David D. Hack, son of Viola Ffrench. In Ireland, there is still a Lord and Lady Ffrench living at Castle Ffrench, at Ballinamore Bridge in County Galway.

Business

US Wings & Moku Man Island Wear: In 1986 Sarge, along with his wife Lani, established US Wings Inc, a purveyor of fine leather "bomber" jackets and military clothing & accessories. After growing US Wings into a successful retail & mail order business, he took it to the next level in 1995 when he brought US Wings to the worldwide web, being the first business in the Ohio-area to do so. The synergy Sarge has created between business and military experience has made US Wings the success that it is, earning US Wings prestigious billing in several famous films and notoriety as the undisputed leader in vintage-styled leather. As an authority on aviation flight gear, Sarge is also a sought-after consultant to the movie industry.

However, he has never forgotten his love for aloha shirts and comfortable island clothing. Moku Man Island Wear is the culmination of Sarge & Lani's dream of offering the very finest in aloha wear and spreading the island spirit through these beautiful and distinctive garments.

In addition to offering a great selection of aloha shirts, island clothing & accessories, we also excel in customer service. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff can assist you with sizes, styles or any other questions you might have. If you're in the Ohio area, please drop by our store and say "aloha" -- we look forward to seeing you!
